The Douglas™ DC-3™ is a fixed-wing propeller-driven aircraft widely used by the airline industry and the military during World War II. With a cruising speed of 207 mph and a range of 1500 miles, it revolutionized commercial air transport in the 1930’s. It was fast, versatile, reliable, easy to maintain and had good range – qualities that are still evident with over 400 aircraft in operation to this day.

American Airlines inaugurated DC-3 passenger service on June 25, 1936 with the Flagship Illinois, non-stop service between New York and Chicago.  Flagship Tulsa registration NC18141, was the 37th of American Airlines fleet of DC-3s, delivered in 1939.  It flew with American from 1939-1949, before being sold to a series of smaller airlines.  It was retired in the early 1990’s, but has been returned to Tulsa, Oklahoma for restoration.
